This is an additional update to our communication update sent September 30, sharing the latest news release from the IRS regarding the disaster designation granted to certain areas within the states of North Carolina / South Carolina and the accompanying exception to the upcoming October 17 filing deadline and other tax relief.
Important Note: For a variety of reasons (e.g. some areas within a state may not be eligible for the extension, extended due dates may vary and payments due prior to the designated disaster date for that state/area may not be eligible for an extension), be sure to carefully read the notice specific to your state for complete details and instructions that apply to business and individual return types and any associated payments.
As of October 6, areas within the following states have been designated as disaster areas and may qualify for an extended filing deadline and/or other tax relief:
- Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Carolinas and Puerto Rico
To view the most recent list, go to the IRS Tax Relief in Disaster Situations | Español webpage and click on + 2022 to access a dropdown of the individual notices containing details and instructions for the specific state. Again, be sure to check back for any new additions.
